The purpose of this site is to assist individuals interested in learning how to weld with technical information, skill development guidlines, and peer review. This information will not replace getting out and welding. It may help you with some of the questions you have when you are having trouble, it may give you some information on HOW to. But it will not teach you how to weld.
Welding is a developed skill! The BEST way to learn how to weld, is to weld. PERIOD. Some of the best welders out there may not have any technical knowledge about the process they are using however If they can do the job, they are welders. With welding, knowledge is NOTHING without skill. The skill is the hardest thing to develop. The knowledge can help the skill develop and provide opportunities for growth however nothing can replace the ability to run a bead.
Having a familiarity with the hows and whys of welding can allow an individual to grow professionally as a welder and open up more opportunities. In my case it has given me some flexibility in what type of welding jobs I can work in. I am by no means an excellent welder. I am familar with many different processes, industries, work environments, etc. My knowldege of welding and past experience has allowed me to work as a welder, inspector, consultant, supervsor, manager, engineering assistant, and my current job as a customer support representative for a welding software company.
There are tons of resources on the internet for gaining knowldege related to welding. It is not my intent to replace that content. I would just like to develop something based on my knowledge and experience that may help someone else get into this trade. I have wanted to teach for years, currently this is the only method I have at my disposal. (Anyone wanting to come to Iuka Mississippi and start a training center for welding, let me know. I would love to be part of it !
